Last call for ambitious students

A unique foundation degree course designed to provide key manufacturing skills is making a last call to recruit students. The Operations Improvement Foundation Degree has been specially designed with industry experts to provide workers in the North East manufacturing sector with essential skills.A total of 50 places are up for grabs on the course, with organisers at Gateshead College and the University of Sunderland keen to fill the last few remaining places before it begins next month. The college and university have collaborated with engineers on the North East Productivity Alliance (NEPA) to bring together the two-year foundation degree course - the only one of its type in the country. After graduation, students will be able to lead change programmes in companies, significantly reducing operating costs and increasing productivity and quality.Colin Herron, NEPA dissemination of best practice manager, said: “This course will provide a real boost to students, substantially increasing their career prospects and importantly has been well received by industry which welcomes the hands-on nature of the learning which will be put to use to boost their bottom line. “This degree course is unique to North East England and reflects the determination of academia, industry and the public sector to provide employees with the skills that really make a difference to companies working in fiercely competitive marketplaces.“A breakfast event will be held at Gateshead College’s Automotive Centre of Excellence from 8.30am on Thursday September 7th where prospective students can learn more about the course.
