Mime Artists to be Exposed
TV viewers should be told when singers aren’t really singing, claims the Musicians Union.
BBC Two’s Culture Show reports that some musicians and viewers are disgruntled by lip-synching on TV, and believe a logo should be flashed up on the screen when performers mime.
Former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren and singer Beverley Knight agree, but Faye from Steps doesn’t think it’s fair to be forced to sing: “For a band like ours that were very much a TV-selling band, it was great for us and we could get our product out there.”
