Mobile phones most important modern gadget
Mobiles are the most important to young people than TV, the largest ever social study of mobile phones has revealed. The study, commissioned by the Carphone Warehouse, reveals that 26% of men and 32% of women aged 18-24 care more about their mobile phones than television. The majority of women under the age of 25 have used mobile phones to deter men from approaching them, but it seems this comes at a price – nearly 1 in 10 women have had a phone stolen, compared to one in five men. On average people send 3.6 mobile text messages a day, and make 2.8 voice calls a day. Among 18-24 year olds the texting revolution has had the biggest impact: 51% of 18-24 year-olds send/receive at least six text messages a day, but only 15% have six or more mobile phone conversations a day. 41% of mobile users think they are too much at the beck and call of their employer as a result of using their mobile phone for work. In addition, almost half of workers never, or hardly ever, turn their phone off. There is also widespread opposition to using a mobile phone on holiday for work-related calls. 57% consider it unreasonable to take a mobile phone on holiday to speak frequently to work colleagues. 90% of UK mobile users cannot get through the day without using their phone, and 9% of young users admit they are addicted to their phones and feeling out of control in how they used them.
