Murder Mystery Solved A Little Late
French detectives who spent two years trying to solve the case of murdered woman have discovered why they were having so much difficulty – the woman died half a millennium ago. Yahoo News reports that the skeleton of a woman in her 30s was found during an exceptionally low tide in December 2003 near the seaside Brittany town of Plouezoc’h. She had a long cut in her skull which led police to believe she had been murdered. Police missing persons’ files revealed no clues, and a theory that the woman was the wife of a doctor who disappeared with his family in a famous 1999 case was dismissed after DNA tests. Eventually radiocarbon dating established that the death had occurred between 1401 and 1453. French detectives have now closed the case, blaming 15th century pirates for the crime.
