New buddy service for novice cyclists
Help is at hand for novice cyclists concerned about swapping four wheels for two. New website, www.BikeBUDi.com, offers a matching service which allows people to search for a cycling companion of the more experienced variety. By putting experienced cyclists in touch with those willing to give it a try, it is hoped that this will reduce some of the usual reasons for not cycling. The website has been created by the people behind www.liftshare.com – a car matching service which aims to reduce the number of vehicles on the road. Liftshare’s Managing Director and the innovator behind www.BikeBUDi.com, Ali Clabburn said: “I am very excited about this new product. Being a cyclist myself I am very keen to get more people to give it a try. Cycling is not only a great way to save yourself money and commuting hassles but is a great way to stay fit and arrive at your destination feeling more energized.” The website also allows communities to set up their own private BikeBUDi schemes - either independently or can be added into existing liftshare car share schemes. Nick Harvey, National Coordinator of Bike Week (17 – 25 June) and Bike2Work welcomed the news of the BikeBUDi launch. He said: “BikeBUDi sounds like an excellent idea. In our experience many people have reservations about starting cycling because they are out of practice or unfamiliar with cycling road safety. We are often asked if any cycling mentoring schemes exist. Hopefully BikeBUDi will help to satisfy this demand.”
