New Chairman appointed to fire service
The new chairman of the Tyne and Wear Rescue Authority has been named as Councillor Peter Gibson. Councillor Gibson, 65, has served on the Authority for three years and has also been a member of the Authority’s Emergency Planning Committee. Married with three grandchildren, Councillor Gibson is a Sunderland City Councillor representing the Silksworth Ward. He was re-elected two years ago and has been a Ward Councillor since 1986. He worked in the mining industry for 37 years and for 15 of those years was a member of the Mines Rescue Service.On his new appointment Councillor Peter Gibson said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been elected as chairman of the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Authority. Looking to the future the Service faces an exciting and challenging agenda which has the safety of the general public at its core. I will be working in partnership with the staff and external stakeholders to create the safest community.”
