New Initiative To Reveal Secrets of £1.8bn Food Procurement Industry
North East farmers, growers and other food supplier are to learn about how they can share in the £1.8 billion food procurement industry.
The Public Sector Food Procurement Initiative will highlight the opportunities to supply schools, hospitals and prisons with fresh produce.
The initiative will kick off with a number of workshops covering issues such as price, product quality and consistency and volumes of supply. Sustainable Food and Farming Minister, Lord Bach said, “The potential for farmers to capitalise on contracts to supply the public sector is immensely encouraging.
I would urge farmers, growers and farmer co-operatives to consider forging links with this sector via contractors and catering suppliers and to attend the workshops.“ The first North East based workshop will be held at Government Office North East in late spring this year.
