No Go For Rude Snow

The days might be getting lighter earlier but winter is still very much here, and an American university is taking no chances with obscene snowmen. Archinect.com reports that Ripon College in Wisconsin will only allow snow sculptures that “reflect the academic mission of the college”. The college students have a history of building giant penises and naked snow-women, and the builders of such “inappropriate” snow structures will now face a $50 fine, “plus any dismantling costs”. In the case of anonymous sculptors, the charges will be absorbed by the residents of whichever building the offending artwork is closest to. A statue of a young Abe Lincoln in particular “usually becomes quite phallic each winter” according to Joshua De War, director of residence life. Mr De War explained: “He’s leaning against a tree, so it’s a very vertical statue, easy to sculpt into other things.”
