North East eLeadership Council created

An advisory body has been created in the North East which aims to give impetus to the region’s e-Agenda. The newly formed eLeadership Council is aimed at maximising the potential of an industry which is already worth £2.4bn to the region’s economy.As well a core advisory role - advising Regional Development Agency One NorthEast on a number of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Infrastructure and Technology related areas - the eLeadership Council will also promote and improve the take up of digital technology, identify barriers and enablers to progress, lobby for change, create peer pressure and form regional and national partnerships.The eLeadership Council is made up of a Chairman and four non-executive Directors. Its work will also be supplemented by a range of key regional partners, such as DigitalCity and Codeworks. Kevin Hart, strategic relationship manager for government and finance with Sage (UK) Ltd, is the new Chairman. He said, “The Council invites collaboration. We are not here to impose our views, rather to work hand in hand with the people and business community in the North East to drive the digital economy. We want our partners, current and future, to genuinely buy into our Vision for the future - of a thriving and cutting edge digital technology economy in the North East - and collectively make that change’’.The four non-executive Directors are Chris Fleetwood, managing partner of io solutions; Paul Campbell, founder and chief executive officer of the Amazing Group; Tom Harvey, chief executive of Northern Film and Media; and Phil Hughes, a former front-line RAF pilot and now Chairman of sustaiNE, the regional sustainable development forum.
