North East Leads The Way With New Online Education Package

A comprehensive online education package to improve employment opportunities for the North East’s young people is being launched today by cultural change programme, Aspire. The launch comes well ahead of the Government’s 2007 deadline, by which time every child in the must have access to an electronic-portfolio, which enables students to store electronic records of their work and achievements. Aspire’s initiative will ensure that every secondary school in the region has access to a leading e-portfolio – making the North East the very first region in the to do so.

The e-portfolio, called Amazing Me, is part of Amazing Schools package, developed by Newcastle-based education software firm, the Amazing Group. Amazing Schools is supported by a two-part information resource developed by Aspire, with the help of communications agency The bgroup. Located on Aspire’s youth portal, nerd-world, the World of Work section comprises: the Sector Showcase (known as the Industry Intro on nerd-world) providing facts and figures, tips and trends for all the different employment sectors available in the North East. This is linked to the Employer Showcase (known as the Company Close-up), which presents a who’s who guide to the North East organisations working in these sectors, and their approach to employing young people in the region.

The company profiles that make up this section have been submitted by organisations, large and small, across the region – to ensure that you don’t miss out on this opportunity to profile your company before the thousands of young people using nerd-world, visit: www.nerd-world.org/aspireprofiles and fill in the online form.

Aspire Executive director, Deborah Carrington, said: “We know that young people rely heavily upon the advice and guidance of their teachers in understanding the world of work. “Aspire’s role is clearly to understand education by listening to the experts – the teachers and careers advisors – and facilitating the provision of tools that will make the task of informing young people about work stimulating for everyone involved in the process.”
