North East Planning Site Scores Maximum Points In National Survey

A North East Council’s planning website has been identified as one of the best in the country in a new national survey.

Planning consultants Peter Pendleton Associates surveyed local authorities in England, Wales and Scotland and National Parks looking at issues such as ease of access to planning pages, online application and decision registers, details of appeals, committee minutes and online planning policies such as minerals and waste local plans.

Durham County Council’s planning website scored a maximum 21 in the survey against criteria adopted by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister as a measure of e-planning progress.

The results of the survey will be used by the ODPM to help allocate grants to local authorities in England. “The survey puts our online planning information among the very best in the country,” said David Miller, the County Council’s Acting Director of Environment. “We have been continuously improving the quality of the website to ensure that we are offering the best possible service. “The challenge now is to keep the site at the very top,” he said.
