North East Technology Nominated For Prestigious 'ELTON' Award
An interactive language learning solution by a North East company has been nominated for a British Council ELT Innovation Award 2006.
County Durham-based L2 has received the ‘ELTON’ nomination for its flagship product, WORDREADY®. The software, which is aimed at 7-12 year olds, covers more than 1,000 words based on the Cambridge ESOL Young Learner Exam syllabus.
The nomination marks a good start to 2006 for L2 after its recent successful debut at BETT 2006 as part of the six-strong Codeworks Connect-hosted Teaching with Technology delegation of companies from the North East. Mark Osborne, a Director of L2, said: “We are delighted at being nominated for a British Council ‘ELTON’ Award as we believe that WORDREADY® is a best-of-breed supplementary vocabulary learning resource that raises the bar in English Language Teaching materials design.
We think it has the appeal to become a firm favourite with learners and teachers alike.“ L2 is a member of Codeworks Connect, the North East’s trade association for digital industries, which hosted the Teaching with Technology delegation. Herbert Kim, CEO of Codeworks, says: “The ‘Eltons’ are the most prestigious awards in the TEFL industry, so it’s a fantastic achievement for L2 to have been nominated so soon after launching the company.
L2 are one of a number of educational technology companies in the North East that are excelling in this sector. The region is developing a cluster of market leaders in the educational technology field, so it’s no surprise to find that they are performing so well.“
