Personalised travel plans for Darlington residents

A personalised travel scheme has been launched in Darlington to encourage residents to adopt more environmentally friendly means of navigating the Borough. A team of travel advisors is visiting every home in the Haughton, Albert Hill, town centre and Stanhope Park areas of the Darlington in the coming weeks to ask people about their current travel arrangements. Using the information they gain, the team will create an individualised travel plan for each household including advice on local bus services and walking routes as well as a range of incentives to get people to try out new ways of getting around. The Local Motion scheme is one of only three Government-funded initiative in the country aimed at getting more people to think about using alternative transport, especially for short journeys around the town.Nick Wallis, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “There are changes we could all make to the way we travel which would benefit both our own health and the environment. “All the information and advice offered by Team Local Motion is free and even making a small change can make a real difference.”
