Record high for top A level grade

Yesterday saw the A Level results improve for the 24th year in a row. A massive 805,698 candidates sat the exams this year - a 2.8 per cent increase on the figures for 2005. The overall results revealed an increase in the number of candidates achieving the top grade (from 22.8 per cent in 2005 to 24.1 per cent in 2006), the Joint Council for Qualifications said. Girls also outperformed boys at grade A in every major A-level subject, apart from modern foreign languages.As thousands of young people across the North East opened the envelopes with the ticket to their future, the nerd summer tour bus continued its whistle-stop tour of the region. The converted double-decker bus spent the afternoon on Villiers Street in Hartlepool giving out essential careers advice to students on Teesside about what to do next and what opportunities are available in the region.
