Region's secret gardens revealed
A new guide has been launched to help people discover the great gardens of the North East. The publication from One NorthEast includes profiles of 34 gardens located throughout the region, which are open to visitors. The A5-size free guide features gardens galore at a wide range of attractions, including historic gardens that provide elegant backdrops to grand country houses such as the forest garden at Gibside influenced by Capability Brown. The guide also features Alnwick Garden with its Grand Cascade, Labyrinth and one of the world’s largest tree houses. Flagship attractions such as Cragside, Wallington and Belsay all in Northumberland, are featured alongside other gems such as the lesser known Shakespeare inspired garden at Crook Hall in County Durham, Chester’s Walled Garden near Hadrian’s Wall, Herterton House in Northumberland or the pioneering eco-experience of Nature’s World in Tees Valley.Stacy Hall, Director of Communications at One NorthEast, said: “From North Northumberland to the Tees Valley there are wonderful historic and contemporary gardens in both the region’s countryside and vibrant towns and cities. Many of the North East’s gardens remain largely undiscovered by garden lovers from elsewhere in the UK and further afield. This guide offers a tantalising glimpse of the North East and is sure to encourage people to come and discover the region and its gardens for themselves.” To receive your free copy of the guide call 0870 2255380 or visit www.visitnortheastengland.co.uk/gardens.
