Round the World Fuel Challenge

A Northumberland couple are hoping to break a world record - making it around the world in a normal car and only filling up the tank 50 times.

John and Helen Taylor are heading east - setting off from the UK through Eastern Europe, India, Thailand to Australia, and then across the Pacific to the USA, before coming back to the UK through Spain.

The couple will be driving a humble Volkswagen Golf FSI 1.6, and they’ll be accompanied by a film-maker, a writer, two mechanics and an independent witness; all of whom will be traveling in two other cars. Between them, they’ll have to carry all the essentials to ensure a safe 28,970 km road journey, starting with the basics - one holdall of clothing each, basic safety provisions, and dried food and water (in those cramped conditions, a stomach complaint could have very unpleasant consequences for other passengers).
