Sat nav or siren?

Drivers in a rural village in Wiltshire are being lured into deep water by the modern-day Siren: satellite navigation. Drivers are being seduced by their mechanical maps in a similar way to how sailors of Greek mythology followed the singing of malicious Sirens, but luckily they’re not actually meeting their watery deaths, just getting a bit damp.

Times Online reports that drivers are following sat nav instructions so faithfully that when instructed to ford the river at Luckington, they are ignoring all the warning signs and trundling on - only to find themselves stranded in three feet of water. The ford, known locally as The Splash, is usually around 2ft deep but can swiftly double in depth after heavy rain. Local tractor owners are beginning to charge £25 to tow the marooned mugs.
