Sharon Osbourne To Star In Vagina Monologues In Newcastle
Reality show queen Sharon Osbourne is to star in the Vagina Monologues for an exclusive short-run when the production comes to Newcastle’s Theatre Royal in March 2006. The X Factor judge, who is currently topping The Sunday Times General Hardback list for ‘Extreme: My Autobiography’, will star alongside Lisa Riley and one other star performer to be announced soon. Lisa is best known for her portrayal of Mandy Dingle in soap Emmerdale, and a role in bitter-sweet programme Fat Friends. The Vagina Monologues’ collection of highly original stories has received critical acclaim receiving prestigious nominations for Drama Desk and Obie awards in 1999 in New York, and a nomination for the 2002 Olivier Award for Best Entertainment. The show is performed by three women who appear on stage together throughout the evening. The ‘vagina interviews’, which form the subject of the show, have been gathered by the show’s dynamic creator, New Yorker, Eve Ensler. Ensler asked over 200 women of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and walks of life to share their most intimate secrets on such normally taboo topics as birth, sex, orgasms and relationships with truly revelatory results. Some of the world’s most successful women have taken part in The Vagina Monologues around the world including Kate Winslet, Glenn Close, Gillian Anderson, Whoopi Goldberg, Mel B, Calista Flockhart, Dannii Minogue, Ruby Wax, Lisa Stansfield, Jerry Hall, Sophie Dahl, Mariella Frostrup, Honor Blackman, and Maureen Lipman. Every performance of The Vagina Monologues will donate a portion of ticket sales to the V-day fund, an organisation that provides charitable aid to women and girls who have been victims of abuse and violence. The Vagina Monologues appears at Theatre Royal Newcastle from Monday 27 March - Saturday 1 April. Tickets are priced at £5.00 - £20.50 and can be purchased from the Theatre Royal Booking Office on 0870 905 5060 or online at www.theatreroyal.co.uk.
