The hills are alive with the sound of music

The mystery surrounding the discovery of a piano near the peak of Britain’s highest mountain seems to have been unravelled. The Sun reports that the remains of the instrument baffled clean up volunteers on Ben Nevis as they cleared away stones from the 4,406ft peak to reveal the wooden frame. It turns out that it was actually an organ carried up for charity in 1971 by a local woodcutter, Kenny Campbell. It took him four days to reach the peak with it, and when he did, Kenny serenaded the summit with a rendition of Scotland the Brave. Having planned to remove it, Kenny then scaled the mountain again, only to find two small pieces of the organ in sight. A beer barrel, a plough and a gas cylinder are among the other things Mr Campbell has hiked up the hill for charity, and next year sees his 65th birthday for which he plans a return trip!
