Ugly buildings wanted!
The hunt is on to find Britain’s ugliest building. The Cost of Bad Design campaign by Commission for Architecture and Built Environment (CABE) asks the nation which buildings they’d like to see Bulldozed. Members of the public are invited to email their least favourite streets, spaces and buildings to baddesign@cabe.org.uk with a full explanation outlining why it doesn’t work and the cost financially, socially or environmentally. Examples that have been nominated already include London’s Centrepoint, which is said to take up so much space that it forces passing pedestrians to walk on a busy bus lane. Further examples will be showcased on the site and in the accompanying publication, The cost of bad design, which will feature essays from built environment experts that highlight what happens when buildings and spaces go wrong. The launch event of the campaign and publication will take place this evening with a panel-led discussion on the cost of bad design, as part of Architecture Week.
