UK heading towards a 'women's economy'

The UK could soon become an ‘older women’s economy’ as flexible working practices become increasingly common, British Telecom believes.As traditional nine-to-five jobs become increasingly obsolete, older women appear to be the best suited to the managerial roles, indicates research from BT. Women trust their colleagues to get on with the job when they are not around, while men are 50% more likely to be suspicious of colleagues who work flexibly. Managers aged 18-29 are the most suspicious - 38% of this were suspicious of flexible working, compared with 30% of 30-50-year-olds and 25% of managers aged over 50.BT futurologist Ian Pearson commented: “The more advanced technology gets, the more it forces us to appreciate human skills. “People will have a very different part to play and they will be able to add the human element to the business, getting close to the customer on an emotional level, creating a different platform to do business.”
