Jarrow residents urged to find out about local issues
Residents of Jarrow are being encouraged to go along to the next meeting of the Community Area Forum and discover what is happening locally that affects them.
As well as hearing about requests for funding through the Forum grants, and from the police about community safety, people attending the meeting will hear from a representative of Nexus about its new LinkUp system.
Councillor Maisie Stewart, Chair of Jarrow Community Area Forum, said: “We will be hearing about a fundamental change to transport services for people with disabilities, and those living in remote areas. “Nexus’s Care Services, for people who need door-to-door transport, has been re-branded as TaxiLink and its demand responsive transport U-Call re-branded as LinkUp. “I’m sure we will have all have many questions which will be answered at the forum meeting.”
Other items which will be discussed include an update on the delivery of the Decent Homes programme in Jarrow, and the Local Initiatives Fund, which aims to support projects which improve the quality of life for people living in disadvantaged areas of the Borough.
Councillor Stewart added: “The Fund has three components - the Community Chest, which promotes voluntary and community sector activity; the Green Fund for environmental schemes; and the Community Safety Fund, which will tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. “It has been established by Transformation, South Tyneside’s Local Strategic Partnership, and Jarrow’s share of the pot is more than £170,000. Obviously we want the views of local people as to how they would like to see the cash being spent.”
Members of the Press and public are welcome to attend the next meeting of the Jarrow Community Area Forum, which takes place in the Town Hall at 10am on Thursday, 21st September.
