High Court orders Google to disclose advertiser

With Ward Hadaway Law Firm

Google has been ordered by the High Court to reveal the identity of an advertiser using its search engine. The court has power to order the disclosure of the identity of a wrongdoer against anyone who becomes involved in the wrongful act of another. The advertiser, a Google customer, had provided a link from its advertisement to a website which made the draft of a book, Unlock Reality, available for free download, prior to publication.

Google initially rejected a request to identify the advertiser but had advised that they would do so if ordered by the court. The book’s owner was, as is usual in these cases, ordered to pay Google’s costs.
