China delegation helps create the right chemistry with the North East

The North East has played host to a high level Chinese delegation from the chemical industry in a bid to develop new trade links between UK and China.

The visit by the Sino-UK Chemical Working Group, led by Chinese minister Mr Li Yongwu, is the ninth in a series of ongoing trade meetings between the two countries.

The delegation first visited London where Keith Stockdale, UK Trade & Investment National Chemical Sector International Trade Adviser, then accompanied the group as it headed north to visit the sector’s new base at the Wilton Chemical Complex on Teesside.

During the visit to the region the delegation met members of the Centre for Process Innovation, the North East Process Industries Cluster and regional development agency One NorthEast, delegates were also given a tour of some of the region’s chemical sites as well as a chance to see some of its impressive countryside.

Mr Stockdale said: “We have been working hard to build links with China and we’re delighted to welcome this high-powered delegation to the UK and the North East, which now hosts UK Trade & Investment’s National Chemical Sector. “The North East has a long history in this field and a wealth of expertise and this offered a great opportunity to fly the flag for the region and the UK as a whole. We were also keen to show the delegates that the region has a lot to offer as a tourist destination and to let them experience first hand the warm welcome for which northerners are so well known.”
