North East films on national screens
Last night saw the first of three 30 minute documentaries on North East Communities screened on national TV. The second and third documentaries will appear on Wednesday 4th and 11th October at 8pm on the Community Channel.
Emily Barber’s Sing Your Heart Out, Reuben Jacob Abraham’s The Lawnmowers, and Louise Rea’s The Chevy Chase, were each funded by Northern Film & Media, the Regional Screen Agency for the North East of England, through the Community Documentary Scheme. This is the first time that such a scheme has led to such national coverage.
Tom Harvey, Chief Executive of Northern Film & Media, Said: “It is vitally important that we enable writers and directors to produce work that result in North East voices and stories being broadcast on national television. Our community Documentary scheme has done exactly that. We are very proud of the three documentaries and we are sure that audiences will enjoy them. They offer insight into an alternative, heart warming, and often amusing North East.”
The three documentaries offer an insight into three very different North East Communities, each thriving in their own way and introducing national audiences to genuine North East stories.
