bdaily is Passionate about Sign Language

This week is the British Deaf Association’s Learn to Sign Week. The bdaily is proud to support this initiative by displaying North East deaf-led organisation Becoming Visible (BV)’s ‘Passionate about sign language’ banner.

Inspired by the ‘Passionate people, Passionate places’ Regional Image campaign for North East England, BV - which is working for improved access for Deaf, Deafblind and hard of hearing people on Tyneside - has adopted two new brand images: ‘Passionate about sign language’ and ‘Passionate about BSL (British Sign Language)’.

Tessa Padden is the current Chair of BV, and now presents the Deaf news on the BBC’s ‘See Hear!’ “Becoming Visible is exactly five years old this month”, says Tessa. “The group was set up in 2001 as part of NewcastleGateshead Initiative’s bid to be European Capital of Culture, and we’ve gone from strength to strength. What better fifth birthday cards could we have than these beautiful brand images? We’ll use them to help publicise all our sign language developments in the North East. We can’t thank the Regional Image Team at One NorthEast enough for all their support.”

Becoming Visible already runs a BSL/English interpreter and communication booking agency, as well as delivering British Sign Language and Deaf Awareness training. bdaily will be teaming up with BV this week to film a very special version of bdaily.tv, our new broadband TV service. To coincide with Learn to Sign Week, the news for bdaily.tv will be interpreted into British Sign Language for a special edition due out later this week. The full bdaily.tv service, which recently signed up ITV news reporter Kim Inglis and Metro Radio DJ Ingrid Hagemann to deliver its weekly news round up, will launch in earnest in November 2006.
