New home for region's digital excellence centre
A North East organisation which is dedicated to supporting the region’s digital sector is relocating. CODEWORKS, the North East’s Centre of Digital Excellence, is moving its headquarters from its three-year home in Newcastle’s Centre for Life to St Peter’s Gate in Sunderland.
The move will allow the Centre of Excellence – one of five established by One NorthEast enhance the region’s competitiveness and productivity - to be closer to one of its key academic partners – The University of Sunderland. Codeworks believes that this will give it an even stronger focus on its core activities of supporting the digital sector and, in particular, software development – a key area in the knowledge-economy sector and one identified as having significant potential for economic growth both in Sunderland and the North East.
Herb Kim, CEO of CODEWORKS, said: “This is an exciting move for Codeworks. Sunderland is investing aggressively in its software sector and we wanted to be sure to be part of Sunderland’s quickly growing knowledge economy. Moreover, as we are a Centre of Excellence operating across the whole of the North East, Sunderland is an excellent location for us in terms of servicing the entire region. “The St Peter’s Gate facility offers superb resources, co-location with the University and excellent pan-regional access. We are looking forward to working closely with the University, Sunderland City and One NorthEast to further develop Sunderland’s knowledge economy ambitions.”
