Ofcom to legalise iTrips by Christmas
A new amendment to the law could see 87,500 iTrip users put back on the right side of the law by Christmas.
Last week, Ofcom announced the results of a 10-week consultation that deals with changing the legal status micro FM transmitters that connect to the iPod and broadcast a signal that can be tuned into a car radio or home stereo receiver.
Now in its final leg, the proposal to amend the wireless telegraphy will go back to consultation for a further month. It is then expected to become law shortly after the end of the consultation on November 6th.
Derrick Stembridge, Marketing Director of Griffin technology which markets one such FM transmitter, called the Griffin iTrip, said: “It’s great that Griffin will be able to support legally sold and used iTrips. The popularity of the iTrip has meant many have made it into the country by channels other than the normal ones. Now we can support the iTrip as we do the other Griffin iPod products available in the UK.”
