Centre for Life wins award
Newcastle’s Centre for Life has picked up a top industry award for its website.
www.life.org.uk won the Tourism Website of the Year award at the North East England Tourism Awards. The awards, run by Regional Development Agency One NorthEast, recognise leading individuals, businesses and attractions that are contributing to the area’s thriving tourism industry.
The Centre’s Marketing Manager, Ian McGregor said: “We spent a lot of time redeveloping the website to make sure it had family appeal and was easy to navigate with the information easily accessed. We also realised that giving the website ‘added value’ was important so we’ve got items on there such Science News which help explain topical science issues. We’re delighted with the award and our thanks must go to Presence Multimedia, our web developers, who we’ll continue to work with to further develop the site and introduce new components.”
The Centre for Life opened in May 2000 to improve people’s interest and understanding of contemporary science. From 30 October, the Centre for Life is closing for two weeks to undergo essential works, marking the final phase of a £4.5m refurbishment which will transform the permanent exhibition space into a new experience about human life in the past, present and future. The Centre will re-open with its popular annual ice rink on 11 November and will stay open during the redevelopment work. The new exhibition, Human Life will open in Easter 2007.
