Peterlee Parachute Centre takes the plunge

A North East extreme sport centre is aiming to train 1000 parachutists before the end of the year. Peterlee Parachute Centre would ordinarily expect to train between 700 and 900 individuals, but this year they are nearing the 1000 mark, making 2006 a record year.

To reach the landmark figure of 1000, the centre is offering a discount this weekend to the next six daring volunteers to take a Tandem Free Fall Course. The instructors at Peterlee describe tandem as “an excellent way to experience a first jump”, involving a 30 second free fall at 120 mph before the instructor deploys a 384 sq ft canopy for a five minute flight to the landing area, allowing time to take in the surrounding scenery.

Ian Rosenvinge, Centre Chief Instructor commented, “Much of our business comes from referrals from satisfied novice skydivers so reaching this landmark figure of 1000 trainees represents an enthusiasm for the sport in the North East and hopefully we will see even more take to the skies in 2007.”
