Bill Clinton gives UK Postcode Lottery his vote

Former US President Bill Clinton has praised the UK Postcode Lottery and pledged to give it his full support. President Clinton said that the Postcode Lottery was an excellent example of inspiring ordinary people to make a difference, and that he thought it was fairer than other lotteries as it created more winners.

President Clinton said: “(The Postcode Lottery is) empowering people of ordinary means to have an extraordinary impact by pooling their resources. “It is more democratic.” He added that he was pleased that the Postcode Lottery was expanding across the UK.

President Clinton was speaking at a recent World Meeting about climate change and global warming in Amsterdam, hosted by the Dutch Postcode Lottery. The Lottery, which has been established in Holland for 18 years, awarded the Clinton Climate Initiative €1,000,000 on the day, further to a previous donation of €1,500,000 to the Clinton Foundation in 2005.

The Dutch Postcode Lottery has given over 2 billion euros to its charitable beneficiaries since its launch. It is the Netherlands’ biggest and most popular charitable lottery, with over 40% of the overall households playing. There have been over 3,250,000 winners to date. Since launching in the North East last August, the UK Postcode Lottery winnings have totalled over £1,500,000 and donations to regional charities topped £600,000. Over 16,000 people have now won in the UK Postcode Lottery and 31,000 tickets have been sold.
