Scrooge bosses?

90% of UK workers will not receive a Christmas bonus, according to Select Appointments. In a poll of over 1,000 employees, just 9% said they will receive any kind of Christmas bonus. This follows a report by digital infrastructure company Citrix, claiming that 64% of employers expect at least half of their employees to work between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Richard Jackson, UK manager at Citrix, said: “Companies could profit by allowing staff to work from home during the Christmas week. “Remote working allows staff to operate as effectively from home as they would from their office, and research [from the Orange Future Enterprise Coalition] has proved that working remotely has a positive impact on productivity and staff contentment.”

At the other extreme, Bank Goldman Sachs has set aside £8bn for Christmas bonuses. The Guardian reports that each member of Goldman’s staff will receive an average £310,000, with high fliers taking home between £2m and £20m.
