Children's charity calls budding singers to audition
A little bit of X-Factor magic is set to arrive in the North East early this year thanks to a local children’s charity. Chin Up will be hosting a series of X-Factor-style auditions entitled ‘Sage Struck’ at The Sage Gateshead to find a budding singer from the region to cover a song, which will then be turned into a CD and sold with all proceeds going towards the charity.
Chin Up supports terminally ill children and young people, having already funded a house in Seahouses offering respite to children and their families. The charity is now trying to raise funds for the region’s first independent children’s hospice. The winner will record the CD in The Sage accompanied by the Northern Sinfonia. They will also undergo a luxury makeover before a professional photo shoot for the CD cover.
Sue Lawrence, Chin Up Fundraising Manager, said: “The original idea was to record a CD, but things have gradually snowballed into this amazing event. “Sage Struck is already proving to be very popular and we are expecting hundreds to turn up. Numbers are limited so anyone interested needs to get their entry form into us as soon as possible. “Although the winner will not gain financially, it will be a great event to take part in and could be the start of a fantastic career. It’s also a perfect way to ease any X-Factor withdrawal symptoms!”
The competition is open to entrants of both sexes aged upwards of 15 (under 18s must have parental consent). Entry costs £10 and auditions will be held on the 24th, 25th and 26th of January, with the final on the 16th of February. Anyone wishing to audition can find registration details on the Chin Up website: www.chin-up-charity.org.uk.Â
