Just One Drop on Old Shields Road

The first in Waygood Gallery’s series of billboard artworks will be put up on Saturday on a billboard at the Waygood Gallery’s temporary studios on Old Shields Road on the A193 between Walker and Byker. The first artwork, which will be on display for the whole of January, is ‘Just One Drop’ by Jonathan Carr, a piece drawing from elements of advertising, painting and graffiti.

The billboard can be seen by passengers on the number 15 or 22 Stagecoach bus, 301 or 302 from the coast, drivers heading along the A193 from Walker to Byker, and workers at the Siemens Factory. The billboard will display a different artwork each month, starting at the beginning of January and changing on a monthly basis throughout 2007, each created by artists from Waygood Gallery & Studios.

Topsy Qur’et, Studio Artist Liaison, who is co-ordinating the Billboard Project said: “The Harker Herald billboard on Shields Road gives us the opportunity to display a changing series of artworks by Waygood artists to our nearest audience – motorists and commuters on the A193, many of whom probably don’t know that there are artists producing works in our studios at Harkers.”
