Generous staff scoop national award

Staff from a Teesside employment initiative are celebrating winning a national award recognising their generosity. Employees of Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG) clinched the Best Overall prize at the National Payroll Giving Awards.

PPDG workers contribute each month to a Give As You Earn (GAYE) scheme and have donated more than £30,000 to around 150 good causes and charities in the last 12 months. Over 66% of PPDG’s 650 employees have signed up to the GAYE scheme, which deducts money from the member’s salary.

Charities and good causes that have received donations from PPDG throughout the Tees Valley include organisations that provide vital support for the disadvantaged and disabled.

PPDG chief executive Colin Birchall said: “This award means so much because it is for each and every one of our employees who choose to dig deep into their own pockets to help those less fortunate than themselves. I would personally like to congratulate them all for their continued generosity and I’m sure that the thousands of people we have helped through our donations would echo those sentiments.”

Charities throughout the Tees Valley which have benefited from help include Daisy Chain, Children Safety Education Foundation, Kayleigh King, Spotlight Media & Training, Kirkleatham Owl Centre, A Way Out, Middlesbrough Lourdes Pilgrimage, CRY, Make A Child Smile, High Flyers Nursery in Thornaby and The Unicorn Centre.

Tim Watts, chairman of Pertemps, said: “Community support and corporate and social responsibility are a key part of Pertemps’ ethics. Pertemps has operated at the core of local communities and is proud to support a wide variety of deserving causes. We aim to support as much as possible on both a regional and national level.”
