Funding opportunities at medical science event
The North’s leading scientists have been invited to York later this month to discuss the complexities of regenerative medicine and the economic consequences of using such therapies.
The day-long event at the National Railway Museum on Friday 23 January coincides with the first anniversary of RegeNer8, a virtual centre that brings together the work of the North of England’s top scientists in the field of regenerative therapies.
RegeNer8 was established through the Northern Way initiative to promote scientific, social and economic development in the North of England.
RegeNer8 is making funds available to its members to promote collaborative projects between academia and industry.
John Fisher, academic director of RegeNer8, said: “It’s been a fantastic first year for RegeNer8 and we hope the next 12 months will be even better. This event gives us the opportunity to discuss in detail, with other leading academics and experts, the benefits of regenerative medicine and how it can make a difference. We’re thrilled to be announcing details of the second RegeNer8 grant call and pleased to be able to announce who’s been successful in receiving funding from the first round.”
Regenerative medicine aims to replace or repair diseased or damaged body parts. It is a multidisciplinary area incorporating aspects of engineering, cell biology and materials science and encompasses stem cell therapy, tissue engineering, regenerative drugs and devices.
