Music to the ears for charity

North East charity The Children’s Foundation is getting in tune with local businesses who are busy signing up for the Great North Idol singing contest.

The event, which takes place on Thursday 5 March and is sponsored by Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets, will raise money for The Children’s Foundation, helping the charity to achieve its aim of improving child health in North East England.

Ten businesses from around the North East will be entering the competition. Each one will put forward a singer or a group, who will perform in front of judges and the audience at Newcastle Arts Centre. The winning act will be chosen by a combination of points from the judges and votes from the audience and will be crowned Great North Idol 2009.

The judges are Lyn Spencer, former radio and television presenter; Gerald Krasner, partner at Begbies Traynor; Kelly Scott from Century Radio’s breakfast show and Andrew Dixon, chief executive of NGI. Presenter and host of the show will be Century Radio’s lunch time presenter, Lisa Shaw. The event is being organised by Julian Gill and David Haley, trustees of The Children’s Foundation.

Julian said: “Many local businesses have individuals with hidden talents. This is a great opportunity for them to show that talent in a competitive but lighthearted environment, whilst of course raising money for a superb cause. We need to lighten the economic gloom and we are grateful to Mike Mullany at Lloyds for their support.”
