Housebuilder makes the most of recession

A housebuilder says it has defied the property downturn to exceed its construction goals.

Keepmoat Homes North East has hailed its encouraging post-Christmas performance, completing and selling 283 properties against a target of 275.

However, the total number of homes built by the Tyneside firm between April and December last year was 52% of the same period in 2007, showing how the industry suffered last year.

Confident that the future months will help continue the progress made since Christmas, the company has committed to building two North East developments - Parklands in Bowburn, County Durham, and Westfields, in West Rainton, near Durham.

Richard Bass, managing director with Keepmoat Homes North East, said: “Although it has been a tremendously difficult year, we are encouraged by recent performance. There is still a good deal of interest out there with footfall at developments holding up well.”

Keepmoat Homes specialises in providing homes for first and second time buyers, and those wanting to downsize.
