Deloitte searches for placement students

A new gap year scheme from Deloitte is aiming to help boost school leavers’ confidence in the job market.

Participants in the ‘Scholars Scheme’ will join Deloitte offices around the UK during the autumn for a paid seven-month work placement. On completion they will also receive £1,500 to fund gap year travel before starting university.

Scholars also receive an annual bursary of £1,500 while at university and four weeks’ paid work experience each year. Following university there is no obligation to join Deloitte’s graduate programme.

John Charlton, a partner at Deloitte in Newcastle who oversees graduate recruitment, said: “In the current market, schemes like these are becoming increasingly popular offering students a great opportunity to gain a head start in their experience, informed career decisions, and also the chance to focus more on their university studies with the task of finding a job already underway. The skills learned and experience gained carry real currency in the job market, particularly as employers receive more applications for their vacancies.”

“We are now accepting applications for the autumn 2010 Scholar Scheme at Deloitte’s Newcastle office.

“The places fill quickly but the earlier students look the better their chances. The scheme offers hands on experience which is ideal for CVs and often leads to a job.”
