Facebook app to help New Year detox

For those thinking of de-toxing in the New Year a new bit of technology could provide them with another incentive after any Christmas over-indulgence.

Teesside digital firm Ideonic have developed a Facebook application designed to show users how their face will look in the future if they continue with bad habits such as drinking, smoking, eating junk food and taking illegal drugs.

MirrorMe uses the same facial recognition technology that the CIA and police around the world use.

After answering a few questions about your lifestyle, it utilises a suitable photo from your Facebook profile to produce an image of what your future face will look like.

The app takes medical factors into account, as well as factors such as location and ethnic origin.

Jeremiah Alexander, Ideas Architect at Ideonic, who leads the Ideonic team that developed the app, said: “Have a go. It’s fun and free. The team has had fun developing the MirrorMe app and seeing how we might look in the future if we continue with our own bad habits. We’re really excited about the potential of the application to inspire change in the New Year and hope that everybody enjoys it.”
