New business provides breath of fresh air - literally!

A Tyneside business that has unlocked the commercial potential of new odour reduction science is set to revolutionise air purification – after life was breathed into the new start-up by Newcastle Science City.

For 12 months, industrial odour specialist Victoria Browning has been working to develop new products based on her industrial and factory-based experience to reduce household odours and neutralise the germs that cause them in the first place.

The promising research is on the verge of being turned into commercial gain thanks to assistance from Newcastle Science City, which has helped Victoria accelerate the launch of 2pure, the business that will market the new, odourless product that has even been proven to neutralise killer bacteria like MRSA.

Victoria said: “It’s an amazing feeling to have got 2pure off the ground as a business – and it really has only been possible with the help of Newcastle Science City, helping me negotiate the way through the stringent regulations and crowded air purification market place.”

The entrepreneur from Whitley Bay explained, “What we’ve uncovered is a new method to combat household smells that isn’t being using in consumer air fresheners at the moment – a double pronged approach that eliminates the odour and its cause at the same time.”

Newcastle Science City has provided a range of services including the establishment of a business model, assistance procuring the costly independent tests needed to assess the products’ effectiveness, and safety and guidance on finding the right market.

Newcastle Science City’s chief executive, Dr Peter Arnold, said, “2pure is exactly the sort of business that will increase the diversity and economic performance of the region and we’re delighted to have been able to help Victoria get her products ready for market.

2pure’s first products will be aimed specifically at pet owners, but a wider range for homecare, fabric care and medical and healthcare application will become available as the business grows, said Victoria.
