Government Minister visits North East today

A LEADING Government Minister will be in the North East today to visit several of the region’s green projects.

Lord Henley, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), will be visiting various locations in the region including Wilton International site on Teesside and Newcastle’s Graphite recourse plant.

The minister who has overall who has overall responsibility for UK waste management and recycling will hold discussions with senior management of companies who have indicated major investments in North East England - all of which will utilise waste material to produce a range of renewable energy products.

Dr Stan Higgins, Chief Executive and John Brady, Senior Project Manager, both of NEPIC, the organisation that secured the visit to Lord Henley to the North East said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to show a leading Government Minister a number of the projects and initiatives already underway in the region, together with a number of planned investments.”

“Such projects are highlighting the North East as a leading player in a low carbon economy and at the same time reducing the volume of products going to landfill.”

Later in the day Lord Henley, will be at The International Bioresources Conference, which will be held at Gateshead’s Hilton Hotel, to hear about a number of the country’s most exciting environmental and renewable developments.

Mr Brady added: “Lord Henley’s presence at our Bioresources Conference presents us with an opportunity to showcase our assets and capability in the renewable sector to a wider and international audience.”
