Industry welcomes Green New Deal
THE manufacturers’ organisation EEF yesterday welcomed the publication of the Green New Deal.
The organisation believes the new deal is a step change in the approach to encouraging energy efficiency amongst domestic and small business energy users.
The firm also thinks the measures will provide a boost to investment in and development of low carbon technologies.
EEF Director of Policy, Steve Radley, said: “This is an exciting development that should help hard-pressed small businesses afford energy efficiency measures that will both cut their utility bills and carbon emissions.
“It should also provide a boost to low carbon technologies and the supply chain which are a major market opportunity for UK plc.”
EEF also expressed disappointment at the measures in the Energy Security Bill aimed at tacking gas storage.
Currently, the costs on suppliers for failing to meet demand are fixed.
The Bill proposes harsher penalties on suppliers in the event of a gas supply emergency.
