Positve energy in the air

A BUSINESS development organisation for the oil, gas, nuclear and offshore wind sectors has reported a positive industry which has weathered the economic storm, according to a survey.

NOF Energy, who took out the review, reported that out of its 370 members 95 per cent described themselves as confident or very confident about the future.

Only a quarter of the members reported sales decreases and 60 per cent recorded employment increases.

70 per cent said they are likely to increase jobs next year with only 7 per cent expecting losses.

Joanne Leng, Director Business Development at NOF Energy, said: “We are very pleased that our survey shows that members have weathered the economic storm and are confident about the future.

“The balanced energy mix is a strategy we are committed to and it is a testament to its worth that the majority of members, which are leading industry companies, believe it should be part of national energy policy.”

The high business confidence was reported to be the result of several factors Including, members expecting new large-scale projects to come online imminently, with both new build nuclear operations and increased investment and development in the renewables sector.

They also believe that the worst of the economic crisis is over and markets will soon return to previous levels.
