Tyre specialist gears up for record sales
SALES of winter tyres have reached record levels at the largest independent tyre retailer in the North of England.
North Eastern Tyre and Autocare (NETA), who have been stockpiling winter tyres in preparation for the adverse driving conditions for some months, have reported an eightfold increase in sales of tyre sales.
Gavin Marshall, managing director of NETA said: “An estimated three million motorists endured problems last winter, and as such NETA anticipated a greater demand for cold weather tyres this year. We have been ready for the onslaught of the bad weather for some time now which has enabled us to fit tyres on a drive in basis.
“In October we sold just over 1000 winter tyres. This has increased dramatically with over 8000 sold in November. December is on track to increase further still with over 1500 winter tyres being sold each day so far.”
The severe arctic conditions of last winter brought much of Britain to a standstill with fleets of gritters struggling to keep even major roads passable, using fast dwindling stocks of salt and grit.
