Leisure firm sees employee numbers double
MONEY ploughed into a County Durham venue has yielded a harvest of jobs.
Since taking over the Plough Inn at Mountsett, Burnopfield, Co Durham last month, North East leisure company, Tavistock Leisure Ltd, has invested more than £400k in giving the venue a new lease of life.
Now as part of an on-going expansion, staff numbers at the venue have doubled with an additional eight jobs being created at the pub/restaurant.
While owned and refurbished by Tavistock Leisure Ltd, the Plough Inn is currently being run under tenancy by Dave and Lynn Meldrum, who originally ran the site in the 1990s.
They and their 16 members of staff are tasked with delivering Tavistock’s vision of making it one of the North East’s finest gastro-pubs.
The venue now boasts an 80 cover restaurant which will compliment the pub operation.
Mark Hird, managing director of Tavistock Leisure Ltd, said: “This is a new business model for the company which is proving very successful.
“We are now looking at a number of different pubs which we will give a new lease of life to but then put in experienced tenants to run it. The reaction to The Plough Inn so far has been very positive and we have every reason to believe it will be a huge success.”
