South Tyneside software firm launches sister company

WITH a turnover of £500,00 one South Tyneside software firm has unveiled a new scheme which will generate a further £6m by 2015.

The new company is focused on business process software, bespoke product development and corporate applications for the fast-growing mobile apps market.

Software entrepreneur David Frame, who bought out a division of a business he part owned, has set up a sister company DEF Apps to service new markets.

David Frame said: “We launched DEF Apps in response to requests from businesses that knew our reputation and wanted us to develop bespoke software systems and products to fit a specific need.

“Having built up a very high profile for DEF Software among the public sector we didn’t want to dilute that brand by introducing new offerings, so launching a new business arm was the logical move.

“Neither of the companies carries any debt or borrowings either, which is a very good place to be right now.”

Mr Frame, formerly joint owner of Washington-based Datawright, bought an arm of the business last year that specialises in planning, building and highways control software for the public sector, rebranding it as DEF Software.

He added: “A lot of DEF Software’s public sector business comes from fixed term support and maintenance contracts – in fact we’ve more than doubled that revenue stream in the last four years - so we already know what we have secured long term, which is why we’re so confident about the future.

“The competition to get into the public sector is fierce, but once established it’s a fairly secure market to be in.”
