North East firms win £8m in new sales

A PROJECT supporting companies in the region to become lean and green in their logistics operations has helped its clients win £8 million in new business.

The Growth Logistics 2 initiative aims put the region’s industry at the forefront of adopting new supply chain systems and practices that save money and carbon emissions.

The fully-funded project offers North East companies free expert support and advice on how to improve their logistics and warehouse operations, from Sunderland-based NAC Group.

Paul Robson, Managing Director of NAC Group, said: “We are really proud that our work has helped companies to grow sales by £8m and we expect this number will rise in 2011.

“Even in this economic downturn, every business faces pressure to reduce its cost base and environmental impact. The free support available through Growth Logistics 2 can help firms to become greener and leaner.”

In the first year of the project, NAC has worked with 58 companies, helping them win £8m of new business and saving them a total of £1.5m in overheads.

NAC has also helped the participating companies to create 41 new jobs and safeguard £17m of existing turnover.
