£100m chemical scheme maybe a UK first
PLANS to create a new £100 million chemical scheme on Teesside could generate up to 80 jobs.
Solvert Limited is hoping to develop the UK’s first manufacturing facility which produces industrial chemicals from domestic and commercial waste.
Thanks to new legislation, and demand from companies keen to improve their environmental credentials, Solvert believes that it is the right time for the UK to establish itself as a world-leader in the renewable chemicals market.
So far the firm has secured funding worth £200,000.
Solvert’s CEO Kris Wadrop, said: “The current drive within the UK is to divert waste away from landfill sites into more productive uses – such as feedstocks for other processes,”
“Organic waste, such as spoilage from supermarkets or the leftover food from our kitchens at home and in restaurants, holds immense potential for conversion into valuable chemicals to replace those produced from crude oil.”
Solvert is now looking at four possible sites for the plant, including the Impetus Reclamation Site at North Tees, Tata Steel, Wilton and the former ICI site at Billingham.
