Esh Group spends £1.4m on revamped van fleet

One of the largest construction companies in the North of England - which has an annual turnover of £150m - has revamped its van fleet across four of its operations.

County Durham-based Esh Group, which employs more than 1,000 staff, has used dealers in the region to provide it with ecofriendly vehicles at a cost of £1.4m.

The construction group, which has headquarters in Bowburn, near Durham City, used the regional operations of Arnold Clark, Benfield Motors and North East Truck and Bus to revamp its fleet with 84 new vans, including 35 Ford ECOnetic vehicles.

Commenting on the deals, John Davies, Group Operations Director, Esh Group said: “These deals clearly represent significant expenditure for Esh Group. We’ve researched this thoroughly and we are projecting savings of up to £150,000 annually in reduced running costs and fuel savings alone.

“All of the suppliers we’ve chosen are worthy winners of the business; they’ve provided us with excellent support so far and we’re looking forward to working with them going forward.”

A multiplier score is used by economists to establish the impact of money spent by firms on the local economy.

Eddie Hawthorne, managing director of Arnold Clark, added: “The team at Esh Group is true to its word; they work hard to spend within the region and support business close to home. This is a significant order for our Newcastle-based operations.”
